🎯 Role Overview
As a Music & Learning Designer, you’ll sit at the intersection of:
- Music pedagogy
- Interactive learning design
- Song-based content
- Product & game thinking
- AI-assisted content creation
You will help turn songs and musical ideas into structured, game-like learning experiences, similar in spirit to Duolingo Music.
This is not a traditional teaching role — it’s a learning design + music creation role.
🛠️ What You’ll Do
🎼 Music & Learning Design
- Design music courses and lessons (rhythm, pitch, sight reading, piano basics, etc.)
- Break down songs into learning objectives, exercises, and mini music games
- Structure content using:
- Section → Unit (song-based) → Lesson → Sub-lesson (game)
- Define learning outcomes at every level
🎮 Interactive & Game-Based Learning
- Design mini music games (tap, clap, listen, choose, perform)
- Adapt existing game patterns or invent new ones when needed
- Ensure lessons are:
- Short
- Engaging
- Beginner-friendly
- Musically meaningful
🎧 Song-Based Content Creation
- Select, adapt, or create songs/grooves for learning purposes
- Edit and prepare musical assets using a DAW (e.g. FL Studio)
- Adjust tempo, rhythm, instrumentation, and structure for learning
🤖 AI-Assisted Workflow
- Use AI tools to:
- Brainstorm course structures
- Generate variations of exercises
- Assist with content drafts
- Speed up iteration
- Critically evaluate and refine AI outputs with musical and pedagogical judgment
🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Product managers
- Designers
- Engineers
- Music producers
- Translate learning design ideas into clear specs for implementation
- Iterate based on learner data and feedback
🎓 What We’re Looking For
🎵 Music & Pedagogy
- Strong foundation in music theory and rhythm
- Experience teaching or designing music learning (formal or informal)
- Familiarity with modern music education approaches (e.g. Kodály, Dalcroze, Orff, Gordon MLT)
🧠 Learning & Product Thinking
- Ability to think in learning progressions, not isolated lessons
- Comfort designing for absolute beginners
- Understanding of UX constraints in mobile learning
🎧 Technical & Tools
- Hands-on experience with a DAW (preferably FL Studio)
- Ability to create or edit audio assets for learning
- Comfortable working with digital tools and iterative workflows
🤖 AI Literacy
- Experience using AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, music AI, content tools)
- Ability to explain how and why you use AI
- Clear ownership of decisions beyond AI output
⭐ Nice to Have
- Experience with music learning apps or games
- Basic piano or keyboard skills
- Experience with rhythm training or ear training tools
- Familiarity with Duolingo Music or similar products
- Experience working in startups or product teams
